Upper Low Now Over Great Basin Will Move To The Rockies As Southern Branch of Westerlies Brings More Unsettled Weather to the High Country this Week….

As the current system tracks off to the ENE an active southern branch of the westerlies will move into California. Although the main area of the richest precipitation will be to the north of Mammoth Lakes. Light amounts of snowfall will aid to freshen up the snow pack from time to time with the next shot of precip to bring some 3 to 6 inches over the higher elevations late Tuesday into Wednesday. This looks to be a pretty windy system Tuesday night. This mornings models show a west to east upper flow this week which will be better for orographics here in the Mammoth area.
California Rivers Forecast Center gives Yosemite .53 hundreds between Tuesday night through early Thursday Am. With orographics, that could be a good 4 to 6 inches for the upper elevations of Mammoth Mountain. Thicknesses will lower to 552Dm with the freezing level down to 8K. Expect a snow level at about 6000, feet on Wednesday.
The next upstream system is expected over the weekend…….
