Yes is was quite warm in the high country this past weekend and down right hot in the Owens Valley. Here are the near and record highs!

Discussion:

An Upper ridge now over Colorado will continue shifting east Monday and Tuesday giving way to a vigorous late spring trof and cold front.

The upper trof at 500mb has two Vort centers and so there may be two areas of precipitation for the Sierra. One late in the afternoon/eve Monday and another after midnight Tuesday AM. Expect Strong gusty winds in Mammoth to 50MPH Monday and Monday evening.

A 1012MB surface low is currently off the Northern Ca Coast. Over the next 6 hours it lifts NE while a cold front moves SE into Northern California.

Between Sunrise and Sunset Monday….a cold front will swing south through the Sierra bringing strong gusty winds, precipitation and much cooler weather.  In that the upper jet comes in from the NW then swings east through Central Ca…..Precip will diminish rapidly south of a Bay area Yosemite line. Alpine county/West Side of Tahoe, seems to be in the bulls-eye for some good precip while Yosemite may get up to .5 of an inch of rain.  Mammoth looks to get between .25 at about 8,000 and up to .4 over the crest. The freezing level drops to about 11,000 feet by Tuesday and so the possibility of a couple of inches of snow over the crest above 10,000 seems possible.  Otherwise, some rain is certainly possible over the lower slopes….  Locals should expect a couple nights of below freezing temps Tuesday morning and again Wednesday morning and possibly Thursday Morning…Although Tuesday Am and Wednesday Am are certainly the coldest with lows in the 20s.

Longer Range:

At the moment, weak trofing is likely to continue toward mid month so afternoon and evening breezes will continue more often than not.

After a chilly start to the week with highs in the 50s on Monday and upper 40s on Tuesday….expect breezy days with high temps this week in the 50s, then low 60s Thursday and mid to upper 60s next weekend. (Note:) Some models have another trof for next weekend)

We should have an end to the freezing morning temps at 8000 feet by about Friday AM.
