Its Official……Wettest December On Mammoth Mt On Record!
Wednesday December 29, 2010
It’s 6:15am Wednesday morning and I can not help but see the snow piling up in my back yard! It over my windows and everywhere! Another two feet has fallen over night and it is still snowing heavily. Even after the Nine feet that fell a week earlier and the settling that took place, it is back up again to record heights! The forecast? Another foot today!
As of 6:15AM Mammoth Mountain has picked up another 27 inches over night at the Main Lodge. That means that December is 205 inches for the month so far with the old record at 140 inches set back in 1972. The season total with Oct and Nov stands at a whopping 299 inches. Again we are expecting another 3 to 7 inches today!
The main subtropical Juice Band associated with the first front will be shifting through the area the next few hours, and so the snowfall should become a bit lighter. That will be followed by an Arctic front with much colder air coming through late this afternoon. There will be a period of strong wind associated with the Arctic front mid afternoon with potential white out conditions….. I do hope that we do not have any additional power outages.
