Chilly Weather has returned to the high country….Breezy North West Winds….Cold overnight lows….Great snow making weather!
Sunday October 23, 2022
Mammoth is in its colder season now with below normal temps as periodic weather system’s reinforce the Inter Mountain Long Wave Trof through months end. Expect highs for the upcoming week to be in the 40s and 50s now with lows in the Teens and 20s…. Accompanied with NW breezes in the 15 to 30 MPH range today and tonight, it will feel even colder! What a big change from last weeks weather! Winds will be not as strong Monday and Monday night and will become more westerly Tuesday.
Expect periodic weather systems the upcoming week to brings periods of wind, cooling and some showers every few days….
The next upstream system will move in Tuesday night into Wednesday. Its not all that impressive and certainly not as dynamic as this weekend storm. So less wind, cooling and little moisture to work with. Nevertheless, a few showers are still possible.
The system exits Wednesday evening and the following few days will be dry. Another system will affect our area Saturday into Sunday the end of the month.
MJO; Tropical forcing is still in phase 6 this week, so the long wave trof axis continues to be east of us over the intermountain west. Good pattern for additional snowfall for Central or Northern Rockies.
Here is the temperature forecast for Mammoth this week…..
Monday 58 Ngt 31
Tuesday 55 Ngt 29
Wednesday 48 Ngt 22
Thursday 50 Ngt 26
Friday 53 Ngt 28
Saturday 54 Ngt 26
Longer Range: Beyond All Hallows Eve, the ECMWF has the long wave over the intermountain west until about the 4th of NOV. Then between the 5th and the 7th, it retrogrades it west to California. That would suggest a storm track onto Central or Northern CA around the 5th, 6th or 7th. Hope that is not some kind of Hocus Pocus!
